Fraser Fir
The Fraser Fir tree was named for John Fraser, a
botanist that visited and explored the Appalachian
Mountains in the late 1700s. It is a pyramid shaped tree
that can reach a maximum height of 80 feet. The trees
branches are slightly turned upward giving the tree a
packed shape. The needles are flattened and a dark green
color.
Fraser Fir trees only grow naturally in elevations above
4,500 feet, therefore they are mainly grown in North
Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee in the mountains.
Trees usually take 7-10 years to reach 6-7 feet, which
is typically the preferred height. The tree has become a
widely popular Christmas tree because of its pretty
shape, lovely scent, and beautiful blue green color.
North Carolina produces the majority of Fraser fir
trees. |
