The
real tree wholesale and retail sale industry continues
to grow year after year. It is very important for both
the consumer and wholesaler to know about proper real
tree care. Wholesalers and growers need to know about
the common threats to real trees like insects and other
bugs that are common pests to real trees. Some tree
species can also live longer after being cut than other
varieties.
There are still a few things that both wholesalers and
consumers can do to help the tree last longer after
being cut.
-
Trees should be stored in shaded areas and protected
from extreme temperatures and wind.
-
The trees should be covered with some sort of burlap
or shade cloth, instead of plastic, and should be
sprayed with water regularly. Water is very
important of course and trees should be sprayed in
the morning and throughout the day if needed
depending on the temperature and sunlight. If the
tree is being kept in warmer areas with lower levels
of humidity the trees will need more water than
usual. Trees should be given on average a quart of
water a day.
-
After taking the tree home, consumers should make a
fresh cut to the bottom of the tree trunk about ¼ to
½ inch thick so that the tree can get water
adequately.
-
If you are looking to tell if a tree is dried out
then you can look at the needles. Needles that break
very easily are usually in good condition, and
needles that do not break as easily when bent are
drier and more pliable. The needles on fresh pine
trees do not break usually unless they are very dry.
